MANKATO — North Mankato, St. James and Mountain Lake each received grants for community-wide active transportation plan
The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced Thursday that 10 cities will receive funding support to help them increase the number of people walking and biking to destinations in their communities.
Funded by the Legislature, the program offers an estimated $100,000 worth of technical assistance from a consultant, such as developing an action plan and demonstration project.
The communities will not receive money directly from MnDOT. Each community is responsible for implementation costs, such as construction.
The assistance aims to help cities reduce pollution, curb traffic, revitalize Main Streets, and increase residents’ health and safety.
