The goal of helping local families prepare for the upcoming school year remains the same, but the location of the annual Niagara Falls Salvation Army backpack and school supplies giveaway has changed.
After years of holding the event at the Fashion Outlets in the Town of Niagara, the organization’s 2026 back-to-school event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Niagara Arts and Culture Center, 1201 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls.
“We’re very appreciative of all the mall has done in the past for the backpack giveaway and the Salvation Army, but we’re just moving it to a different space and we’re grateful for the donations that have come in,” said Salvation Army Capt. Megan Moretz.
As has been the case in past years, the local Salvation Army will be giving away free backpacks for school-aged children up to age 18. All children must be present to receive a backpack. Notebooks, pencils and other items will also be available free of charge while supplies last.
The event is coordinated by the Niagara Falls Salvation Army with assistance from the Lewiston Kiwanis Club, the Niagara County Peach Queen program and the NACC.
The Salvation Army is still welcoming additional donations of backpacks and supplies and always welcomes monetary donations and other forms of support.
