A new exhibit, “Fanciful Flowers & Foliage,” a collection of 30 works by Dalton-based artist Tammy Evans Gossett, will open Friday with a reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Creative Arts Guild.
Gossett is self-taught, according to a statement from the Guild. She began making art as a hobby, never intending to share with the public. Yet through the encouragement and help of family, friends and mentors she now welcomes us to experience her art, the Guild said in the release.
The Guild described Gossett’s work in the statement released this week, “Artwork is a window into the artist’s perception of the world and Gossett’s work is a reflection of her travels and interests rendered in bright colors and with a playful attitude. As a viewer moves through her work, familiar flowers and foliage will present themselves in fresh and vibrant arrangements.
“Her intimacy with the subject matter allows her to reinterpret the subject without losing its essence. She uses acrylic paint and mixed media collage to emphasize texture and a spirited color palette and strives for a sense of joy in her artwork.
“I am constantly striving to grow and refine my craft with different techniques and ideas, using a spirited color palette and my own style as I carve out a new path for myself. I attempt to bring the outdoors to the indoors through my art,” Gossett said.
The Guild continues its “ATL Imported,” a group exhibition in Gallery FIVE20 of works featuring artists from Atlanta. “ATL Imported” opened April 12 and will run until May 31.
For the exhibit, the Guild partnered with Rial Rye, an Atlanta-area artist, to present an exceptional exhibit of work by artists living and creating in Atlanta. The exhibit showcases a myriad of talent from in and around Atlanta and offers a snapshot of the magnitude of talent being cultivated in the area. Fourteen artists are featured: Lay’Na Anderson, Kelly Breedlove, Momar Clemons, Billy Clifton-Strawn, Hail Holtzclaw, Paul Leroy, LOWKEY, Lucy Luckovich, Navin Norling, Jeffrey Wilcox Paclipan, David Robinson, Tori Tinsley, Aineki Traverso and Sharon Walker.
Guild Gallery Openings and Artist Receptions take place on the first Friday evening of each month from 5:30 to 7, with a few exceptions. Gallery Openings are free, family-friendly and open to all. Activities for kids and refreshments are available.
