SARANAC LAKE — Jeezum crow! Do you have a true Adirondack accent bud? The casting office for a Netflix series set in the Adirondacks is seeking North Country folk for roles in the series.
Netflix and Sony Pictures Television are producing an adaptation of Liz Moore’s 2024 book “The God of the Woods” and the casting office of Laura Rosenthal is looking for Adirondack-based actors of all genders between the ages of 20 and 69 for roles in the series.
The book and the series are set in the Adirondacks, but the filming is set to take place in Beacon, around an hour-and-a-half north of New York City.
Filming is scheduled between June 1 and Oct. 1.
To apply for an audition, email a headshot, as well as a resume and a reel, if available, to Sydnie Rathe at srathecasting@gmail.com, confirm availability during the shooting dates and note any scheduling conflicts.
“The production is especially interested in actors with familiarity with (or accents native to) the North Country region,” according to the casting call from the casting office of Laura Rosenthal.
If you say “across” as “acrost” or add “the” before street names and other locations, you might fit the bill.
Greater Adirondack Film Commission Commissioner Eric Granger said that he had scouted some great camps in the Adirondacks with the production crew, but they ultimately chose to film further downstate, along the Hudson River.
“The God of the Woods” became a New York Times bestseller, appearing on the list for 38 weeks.
Set in the 1960s and 1970s, it centers on the wealthy Van Laar family’s great camp, after 13-year-old Barbara Van Laar goes missing from the family’s nearby summer camp, Camp Emerson.
Previous tragedies, dark family secrets and class tension bubble up as the search for the missing child begins.
Moore is co-writing the series with Liz Hannah, who has previously worked on “The Girl from Plainville,” “Mindhunter” and “The Post.”
Kerry Condon of “Train Dreams” and “F1” will star as Alice Van Laar, the missing teen’s mother.
Stranger Things star Maya Hawke, the daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, will play the investigator Judy Luptack.
Ella Rubin of “Sterling Point” and “The Idea of You” will play the blue-collar Camp Emerson counselor Louise Donnadieu.
