Around 20 volunteers from National Grid helped gave out food at Heart Love & Soul on Thursday morning, helping out 170 needy families for the holidays.
The nonperishable food handed out included Christmas ham, turkey, fruits, vegetables, and eggs to help families celebrate Christmas.
“Anytime we get the chance to help people in the community, we do,” said spokesperson David Bertola, acknowledging that food insecurity is a major issue in Niagara County.
National Grid employees have worked the lines serving food at the food bank before over the past seven years, including for its annual day of service.
National Grid announced last month it would contribute $275,000 toward food organizations across the state.
Other recent community service efforts in the region include giving out food on Buffalo’s east side and in Olean schools and giving away winter coats at Buffalo shelters.
