YORKTOWN HEIGHTS — The Northern Adirondack boys’ soccer team ran up against a powerful opponent in Section I’s North Salem on Saturday.
Sean Randall scored 6:34 into the game and the Tigers, the NYSPHSAA Class C state defending champions, went on to record a 5-0 win over the Section VII-champion Bobcats in a regional final.
NAC was hoping for more success following Tuesday night’s 3-2 overtime win over Section X-champion Lisbon at Potsdam High School where Jack Earl scored two goals, including the game-winner, and Jackson LaBarge scored one.
But keeping pace with the talented Tigers, who are 16-3-1 overall and ranked No. 5 in the state, was a difficult task for the hardworking Bobcats.
North Salem has been to the Final Four several times and has won the state title in 1993, 2016 and 2024.
Randall opened and closed out the scoring with 19:46 left in the contest on a header off a cross from Steven Gamez.
Liam Keegan added a goal and assist for North Salem and had the assist on Juben Lazri’s goal.
The Tigers’ Final Four semifinal opponent Saturday will be Section II’s Maple Hill.
The setback ended the Bobcats’ season with an 11-6-1 record. NAC was ranked No. 10 in Class C coming into the game.
