VALDOSTA — A cross-county chase ended in Lowndes County Saturday, the sheriff said.
The chase began with a shooting incident in Turner County, said Lowndes County Sheriff Ashley Paulk.
“The first word we got was that a deputy (in Turner County) had been shot,” Paulk said, “but later it turned out the deputy had shot at a suspect who tried to run him over.”
Pursuit of the suspect proceeded into Cook County and finally into Lowndes County around 8:30 p.m., the sheriff said.
A Lowndes County patrol car was wrecked in the process, Paulk said, but the deputy driving it was unharmed.
The suspect was finally captured and faces “a bunch of traffic charges,” Paulk said.
The suspect’s name was not immediately available.
