MANKATO — Maille Mathis came off the bench to score the game’s lone goal, as the second-seeded Minnesota State soccer team beat third-seeded Missouri Western 1-0 in the second round of the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament Sunday afternoon at The Pitch.
Mathis scored her unassisted goal in the 66th minute. Mathis also scored the game-winning goal in MSU’s 2-1 win over St. Cloud State in the first round of the tournament.
Shots on goal favored the Mavericks 8-3. MSU goalkeeper Clare Longueville made three saves to record the shutout.
With the win, MSU will advance to the regional final Dec. 1. The Mavericks will play the winner of Central Oklahoma and Central Missouri.
