FIELD HOCKEY
Hamilton-Wenham 3, Amesbury 0: Samantha Nevins, a junior captain, scored her team-leading fourth and fifth goals of the season and goaltender Ava Baughn wasn’t required to make a single save to pick up the shutout as the unbeaten Generals (2-0-1) rolled. Molly Ryan assisted on both of Nevins’ goals, which each came off of penalty corners. Lucine Revette had the third H-W goal, again with Ryan assisting.
Manchester Essex 4, Danvers 0: The Hornets pulled away with three goals over the final three quarters, with Abby Kent getting two scores plus an assist. For the Falcons (0-3) Grace McLaughlin had 16 saves, including one a stroke, while Caroline Horn had a defensive save. In addition, Kyla Moroney and Ava Patch had strong games in the midfield.
Bishop Fenwick 6, Northeast 0: Shea Mason, a junior, notched a hat trick plus an assist and senior teammate Olivia Watson scored twice to power the Crusaders (1-1). Freshman Sophie Cooke scored her first varsity goal, Mia Millett had two helpers from her midfield spot, and Ashley Stickney also had a standout outing.
Ipswich 3, Rockport 0: Junior midfielder Bella Bruno scored a pair of goals and assisted on the other as Ipswich improved to 2-1. Goaltender Abbie Allen, a junior captain, made two saves for her first shutout of 2024. Cairo Teehan also had a goal for the Tigers, with Ella McCarthy assisting on both of Bruno’s tallies.
Lynnfield 2, Essex Tech 1: Gyovanna Barrows scored her first goal of the season, assisted by Ella Tucker, and goalie Natalie Partelow finished with seven saves for the Hawks (now 0-3). Sophia Capillo also had an excellent game for Essex Tech.
GIRLS SOCCER
Masconomet 7, Saugus 0: In a crossover match between last season’s NEC divisional champs, the Chieftains (3-0) got a goal and two assists from captain Amanda Schneider plus a goal and an assist from Brooke Hagerty in the victory. Also scoring were seniors Nicole Schneider and Riley Bovardi as well as Maggie Blosser, Victoria Cerbone and Kaia Reardon. Violet Malinowski had a pair of assists and Evy Mills stopped a clean breakaway to preserve the shutout.
Peabody 6, Saugus 0: Connie Patturelli scored twice and assisted on another as the Tanners (1-2) came alive offensively to earn their first win. Avery Marcus and Emma Wadle also scored while Ally Bettencourt and Jess Steed each added multi-point efforts. Alessandra Forgione had the shutout in net.
Marblehead 3, Swampscott 0: Lucy Church scored her first goal in a Magician uniform and Lani Gilmore and Sammy Dosch added their first career assists in the win. Callie Gilmore scored for the third straight game and also added an assist for Marblehead with another goal coming from Sadie Halpern.
Danvers 8, Gloucester 1: Senior captain Georgia Prouty had her second hat trick in as many games and Brooke Wynott scored twice (including a PK) with one assist to deliver the win. The Falcons (3-0) also got goals by Gianna Sutherland, Lila Doucette and Claudia Drakos
Beverly 8, Winthrop 0: Addie Abell and Avery Fogarty netted two goals apiece and the Panthers climbed over .500 at 2-1. Grace Galbreath added a goal with an assist while Genvieve Bilotti, Sveta Piasechi and Rylie Bergman rounded out the scoring. Lily McCarthy had a great game in the back for Beverly.
Covenant Christian 2, Landmark 1: Leah McEachern netted the game-winner for the Cougars with an assist from Carys Walters and Samantha Seiler also scored.
BOYS SOCCER
Masconomet 4, Saugus 1: Enzo Netla, Charlie Olson, Jack Fielder and Gabe Franciosa took care of the scoring with assists earned by Jacob Olson and Jack Savitsky as the Chieftains earned two conference points. In goal, keepers Gabriele Russo and Charlie Antonakes each played well.
Peabody 3, Salem 1: Owen Brennan scored twice in the second half with his first tally breaking a 1-1 tie and helping the Tanners pull away. Kacper Kowalczyk’s second half PK tied the game up while Derek Collins and Daniel DeAndrade had assists. Playing well for Peabody were Marshal Simpson, Luke Murray, Jason Decost, and Fabio Goulart.
For the Witches, senior captain Ian Souza found the back of the net and seniors Bryce Harrington and Felipe Oliveri each played well.
Beverly 8, Winthrop 1: The Panthers rolled.
Marblehead 2, Swampscott 1: Miles Funtela-Tuttle had both goals for the victorious Magicians, with Stefan Shepard assisting. Both tallies came during the first half of play between the two arch rivals.
Swampscott’s goal, coming in the second half, came off the foot of Max Arredondo, with Costa Shub picking up the assist.
Covenant Christian 5, Landmark 1: Bennett Plosker had a hat trick to power the Cougars while Jacob Libby and Wesley Libby also found the back of the net.
GOLF
Salem 40, Saugus 32: The Witches won their first match of the season thanks to individual victories from Shea Christel (7-2), Barbara Rowley (7.5 to 2.5), Alyson Gill (8-1) and AJ Alessi (5.5 to 3.5). In addition, Aaron Babb halved his match for Salem.
Hamilton-Wenham 176, Pentucket 141: Cooper Miller had 35 points to highlight the win for the Generals (3-0) at Myopia. Trent Murciz added 30 points while Cam McINtosh scored 28, as did Logan Guitterr and Liam Berrigan.
St. John’s Prep 57, Gloucester 15: The Eagles (1-1) prevailed under match play rules at Bass Rocks with Jack Moriarty shooting a team best 1-under 35, capped off by a long birdie putt on the ninth. A.J. Bodnar also shot well with a 37 on the day.
VOLLEYBALL
Lynnfield 3, Hamilton-Wenham 0: Senior Kimara DelRosario had six kills and five aces to lead H-W in a competitive 25-21, 25-17, 25-17 match against the powerhouse Pioneers. Senior Bizzy Ireland added five kills with an ace and senior Maisie Leland totaled 20 assists. Sophomore Abby Norris did a nice job receiving serves as well.
Wakefield 3, Beverly 0: Captain Gabby Wickeri and Sophia Balducci each had 12 digs and the Panthers had some fantastic long volleys in the 25-23, 25-18, 25-21 setback. Captain Aleek Kuot and sophomore Lidia Miedema had three blocks each at the net and Reese Kwiatek shone all-around with eight kills, seven digs and an ace.
Essex Tech 3, North Reading 1: Senior setter Sienna Getty had 28 assists, freshman Lavinya Olivera had 12 kills and 15 digs and the Hawks prevailed 25-18, 25-15, 23-25, 28-26. Janelle Dalton had 20 digs to lead the defensive effort.
Woburn 3, Marblehead 2: The Magicians won the fourth set to force a tiebreaker but fell, 16-25, 25-17, 21-25, 25-22, 7-17. Greta Sachs had a great night with 16 kills on 25 swing in addition to two blocks and one ace. Mari Modryznska added a dozen kills of her own with eight digs and Megan Parkman anchored the defense with 12 digs.
