ANDOVER — While many slept in on Monday, members of the Merrimack Valley Branch of the NAACP were up bright and early to honor the legacy of civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr.
About 150 people turned out for the 40th annual Martin Luther King Jr. breakfast held at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel. The guest speaker was Dr. Guy Fish, CEO of Greater Lawrence Family Health Center.
During the breakfast, Ashley Tavares Castillo, a senior at Greater Lawrence Technical School, was awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
President’s Awards were given to Allan Kopel of Haverhill, secretary of the Merrimack Valley Branch of the NAACP, and Victor Martinez, a history teacher at Greater Lawrence Technical School.
