MERRIMAC — The Merrimac Public Library is hosting local author and musician Cidny Bullens on Thursday, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., in the library’s community meeting room.
Grammy award winning singer, songwriter and West Newbury native Cidny Bullens will talk about his critically acclaimed memoir “TransElectric: My Life as a Cosmic Rock Star”. Bullens will also treat the audience to some of his most notable songs acoustically woven throughout the program.
As a talented female singer/songwriter, Bullens released eight solo albums between 1979 and 2010, but has lived a life that is anything but ordinary defined by incredible highs (performing with Elton John in Boston in front of 80,000 fans and being a founding member of The Refugees band, ) and crushing lows (drugs, booze, busted record deals, and the death of a child).
After struggling with gender identity for most of his life, Bullens transitioned from Cindy to Cidny at age of 61. This amazing memoir is the story of a wannabe rock star as well as the story of resilience in the face of grief and his eventual transition from the woman he was, to the man he knew he should be. As Elton John says in his brief but emotional forward to this book, “This is an amazing story. Bravo, Cidny”
The Friends of the Merrimac Public Library have generously funded this special author event. Copies of Bullens book will be available for purchase the night of the program. To register to attend visit the library’s events calendar at merrimaclibrary.org.
