Mark Bonacci of Niagara Falls recently received the Dr. Carol Jamieson Award at SUNY Niagara. The honor recognizes faculty members who embody the qualities of the late Dr. Jamieson, a veteran academician with an in-depth historical perspective and acute foresight, a can-do attitude, ever-present resilience, and a willingness to mentor many.
SUNY Niagara presents the award to faculty members who excel in mentoring, inspire students, teach enthusiastically, and uphold the college’s high academic standards.
“I am delighted for the college to acknowledge Dr. Bonacci with this award,” said SUNY Niagara Vice President for Academic Affairs Maher Ghalayini. “He stands out for so many reasons. His easy rapport with students, his commitment to our college, his engagement in his field of study — all of these things come to mind.
“Mark is a model educator and practitioner, always giving of himself and inspiring others to follow the example he sets.”
Bonacci, who came to the college in 1989, is a professor of human services and one of SUNY Niagara’s longest tenured faculty members. He holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from Manhattanville College, a Master of Social Work from New York University, and a PhD in psychology from the University at Buffalo.
Bonacci also serves on the University at Buffalo School of Social Work Dean’s Council and co-authored “Social Sciences Research: Research, Writing and Presentation Strategies for Students,” a book highlighting best practices in the study of social sciences and the presentation of findings.
