Gloucester 3, North Andover 2: The Fishermen (now 5-6-1) rallied back from a 2-1 deficit on Monday with a pair of third period goals to get back into the win column. Freshman Cam Amero netted two of those goals, with senior Cade Cooper scoring the other. Assists went to Kam Francis, Luke Salah, Giacomo Martell and defenseman Sam Sanfilippo, the latter of whom played an “outstanding game” on defense, according to head coach Derek Geary. Gloucester also benefited from having senior captain and defenseman Chris Dailey back in the lineup after he left the team’s previous game with an injury. GHS out-shot North Andover by a significant 32-11 margin.
Dracut/Tyngsboro 4, Rockport 1: The Vikings (2-10) got a goal from Hayden Wood, but it wasn’t enough as they suffered their seventh straight loss. Assists went to Ben Ranier and Ryan Meaney, while goalie Luke Holmes was once again terrific in net with 41 saves on 45 shots.
“Weird first goal — off Matt DeOreo’s foot — and then we couldn’t seem to shake that one off,” admitted Rockport head coach Garrett Stevens. “This team works so hard but can’t seem to pull on the rope at the same time to get us back in the win column.
“Credit to the guys for battling back to score on the power player, and happy to see Hayden Wood get on the board after slowly getting back on track following an injury earlier this year.”
Rockport will look to snap the losing skid when it hosts Newburyport on Wednesday night at 8 p.m.
GIRLS HOCKEY
Medford 2, Gloucester 1: Following a 3-0 defeat against Winthrop over the weekend — a game in which head coach Rob Parsons said his team played well in despite the result — the Fishermen controlled play but couldn’t sneak a decisive goal past the Medford goalie who, according to Parsons, “stole the game”. Halia Taylor scored Gloucester’s lone goal with assists going to Elliana Parsons and Melanie Earl.
“Halia Taylor played her best game maybe ever and she always plays well,” said Parsons, his team now 5-7 after their fourth straight loss. “She leads by example, full effort all the time in practice and games. Smart, effective in all three zones (and is) the lone senior getting playing time on a very young team and helping to make everyone better.”
Parsons added that Taylor has been the team’s best penalty killer and her goal against Medford came on the power play, a role that she’ll continue to occupy moving forward. Gloucester will have a few days off before returning to the rink on Saturday at Masconomet (7:30 start).
