CHAMPLAIN — Northeastern Clinton’s season opening Frank Dumas boys soccer tournament hosted both a blowout victory and a low scoring, balanced battle for the win.
The two day tournament began on Thursday, with the Saranac Spartans and the Boquet Valley Griffins facing off for the season’s opening game.
The second game of the first round, which kicked off right after Saranac’s blowout win, saw the host Northeastern Clinton Cougars shut out the Northern Adirondack Bobcats.
The winners of these games faced off for the championship Friday at 6:30, after the consolation game between the losing teams.
GAME ONE
SARANAC 6
BOQUET VALLEY 1
Theran Ducatte was the catalyst for a blistering hot first half for Saranac. She scored the only two goals of the half, including the game winner. He was assisted by Logan Galy and Brody Macomber
Saranac won the game 6-1.
The Spartans rode the momentum into the second, not allowing a Griffin goal until minute 36 of the second half and scoring four of their own to bring the game to its final score.
The second half Saranac goals started right away, with Galy opening up the half with a goal in the second minute off of an assist from Mason Brown. Brown then put a goal of his own in the net four minutes later, assisted by Landon Giroux.
Brown notched his second goal in minute 23 assisted by Galy. Eric Glover earned the Spartans their final goal of the night at minute 35, assisted by Macomber. Saranac scored its six goals on 24 shots.
Ted Gay scored the only Boquet Valley goal and was unassisted. The Griffins took a total of nine shots.
Damian Lannon won the game in goal for Saranac, recording 6 saves. Trenton Landon stood valiantly as Boquet Valley’s keeper, stopping 15 shots.

Tyller Bourgeois was the hero for the hosting Northeastern Clinton Cougars with his first varsity goal in the games first half.
Evias Carpenter assisted the goal.
The game winner was the only goal of the night as the Cougars shut out the visiting Bobcats 1-0. The semi finals win earned the Cougars an appearance in the finals.
The game was “Very balanced,” said NCCS boys soccer coach Nicholas Trombley. Both teams took single digit shots on the night, with the Cougars leading in shots 6-2.
NCCS goalkeeper Maxx Rabideau was the face of the shut-out, recording as many saves as the Bobcats had shots with two.
Parker Manor saved five shots for NAC.

Frankie Garrow Tournament
CHAZY — Day one of the Frankie Garrow tournament saw two closely contested soccer matches as the Plattsburgh Hornets faced the Canton Golden Bears and the hosting Chazy Eagles took on the Beekmantown Eagles.
The two day tournament began on Thursday.
Plattsburgh earned its win over the Golden Bears 2-1 in the opening match, while the hosting Chazy Eagles defeated Beekmantown in a 1-0 overtime shutout.
The winners of the semifinals matches will go on to compete in the finals today at 7 p.m.
GAME ONE
PLATTSBURGH 2
CANTON 1
Quinn Roth led the Hornets to victory with two points, earning himself the game winning goal and an assist in the semifinal match.
Plattsburgh will make its appearance in the finals after defeating the Golden Bears 2-1.
Nate Lambert opened up the scoring in the second half with a goal from outside the 18 yard box with 33 minutes left in the second half, placing the ball in the top left corner off of Roth’s assist.
Roth would earn his own goal five minutes later through a “tremendous individual effort to work past the Canton defense,” said Plattsburgh boys soccer head coach Chris LaRose.
Canton’s Tomislav Husinec answered off of a penalty kick with 15 minutes left in the game, keeping the contest close till the final buzzer.
“We had numerous chances to score in each half, especially the second half, however Canton’s keeper, Jackson Ames made some tremendous saves to keep the game close,” said LaRose.
Ames recorded 15 saves in a heroic effort for Canton. Will Vega earned the win in goal for Plattsburgh with two saves.
Plattsburgh won the shot differential handily, 17-2.
LaRosa highlighted the performance of Nate Baker, Luca Meyer and Chase Laravia as standouts for Plattsburgh in the match. He also commended Canton’s Thomas Creurer and Lucas Howie.

CHAZY 1
BEEKMANTOWN 0 (OT)
Zeke McLennan’s overtime heroics and first varsity goal earned Chazy a win to open its boys soccer season.
McLennan’s goal would be the only goal of the match, with Chazy taking the win over Beekmantown 1-0.
Landon Duprey was the only other athlete to register a point with his assist on the overtime goal.
Chazy’s ability to generate shots helped their offense pull out the win. They recorded 13 shots while Beekmantown was only able to generate two.
Jasper Burdo recorded 12 saves in goal for Beekmantown in a strong effort to keep Beekmantown in the game.
“Jasper Burdo in goal for Beekmantown tonight was outstanding,” said Rob McAuliffe, Chazy boys soccer head coach. “He made a few crucial saves in the second half to send it to overtime.”
Chazy tried multiple goalkeepers in the game. Kobe hernandez and Henry Kapp both recorded one save in their time on the pitch.
