BISMARCK — The Bismarck-Henning Junior High 8th grade basketball team will be going somewhere it hasn’t gone in over 40 years today.
The Blue Devils will play in their first IESA State Tournament since 1983, when they take on East St. Louis Lincoln in the quarterfinal round of the Class 8-3A championships at Unity High School in Tolono at 1 p.m.
Bismarck-Henning has a 22-1 record going into the game and has won county, conference, Topper Classic, regional and sectional titles this season.
If the Blue Devils win against East St. Louis Lincoln (17-5), they will be in a semifinal against either La Grange Highlands (21-1) and Lansing Heritage (17-5) today at 6:30 p.m.
Westville 58, Hoopeston Area 35
HOOPESTON — Easton Barney had 22 points as the Tigers tied the school record for most wins in a season on Thursday.
Matthew Darling had 11 points for Westville, while Aiden White and Lincoln Cravens each had six and Ryder Lyons had five points.
Nick Cardenas had nine points for Hoopeston Area, while Raydon Montez, Alandize Barnett and JJ Martinez each had six points.
The Tigers went for their 28th win of the season against Chrisman on Friday and will play Schlarman Academy on Tuesday.
Covington 52, Fountain Central 44
COVINGTON, Ind. — Kaden Smith had 19 points and four assists as the Trojans broke a three-game losing streak on Thursday.
Creux Rieman had 13 points for Covington, while Landon Herzog had 11 rebounds and Colton Pettit had four assists and two steals.
Noah Dodson had 13 points for Fountain Central.
La Salette 70, Geo-RF 8
GEORGETOWN — Jase Latoz had five points as the Buffaloes lost to the Lions at home.
Austin Grider had two points for Georgetown-Ridge Farm, who after playing First Baptist on Friday, will play Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin on Tuesday.
Westville 40, Schlarman 39
WESTVILLE — Bella Dodson had 16 points as the Tigers were able to beat the Hilltoppers on Thursday.
Madison Duke had 10 points for Westville, while Taryn Boland had six and Madison Sapp and Chloe Cox each added four.
Emberlyn Schull had 14 points for Schlarman Academy, while Addison Forsyth had 13 points and Layla Briggs, Izzy Bogen and Bayleigh Smith each had four points.
The Hilltoppers are 2-15 and will play DeLand-Weldon today, while the Tigers are 5-21 and will face Armstrong-Potomac on Monday.
Schlarman was coming off a 58-23 loss to Georgetown-Ridge Farm on Wednesday. Forsyth had seven points with Schull getting six and Ava Dixon added five.
Madi Spesard had 16 points to lead the Buffaloes, while Milee Ellis and Addisen Ellis each had 12 points and Annistyn Tovey had nine points.
The Buffaloes will host Hoopeston Area on Monday.
Riverton Parke 40, North Vermillion 39
CAYUGA, Ind. — The Lady Falcons’ season came to an abrupt end on Wednesday as they lost to the Panthers in a IHSAA Class 1A sectional matchup.
Cadence Dunham had 16 points for North Vermillion, while Nora Thomann had 13 and Kayanna Smith had six.
The Lady Falcons end the season with an 14-11 record.
Seeger 58, N. Montgomery 38
OXFORD, Ind. — Lorelei Lanie had 23 points as the Patriots easily beat the Chargin’ Chargers on Tuesday in an IHSAA Class 2A sectional.
Hayden Frodge had 13 points for Seeger, while Kalli Peterson had 12.
The Patriots faced Renssalaer Central on Friday in a sectional semifinal.
Salt Fork 51, Oakwood 26
FITHIAN — Taylor Remole had 14 points as the Storm defeated the Comets.
Sailor Pacot and Laurilei Pierce each had 10 for Salt Fork, while Morgan Russell had five and Brycie Hird added four.
Caydence Vermillion had 12 points to lead Oakwood, while Gracie Hanner had six and Emma Koontz added four points.
The Storm will play Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin in a rematch of the Vermilion County Tournament title game on Monday. The Comets will play Schlarman Academy on Monday.
