What are the odds that two Plum Island residents would somehow wind up playing sports at the same university in England?
You might think impossible … but it’s real.
Both Ella Trout and Nick Mueller are currently attending the prestigious University of Nottingham in England this academic year, obtaining their respective Master’s Degrees a cool 3,171 miles away from home while also continuing their athletic careers. What more, they will both be competing in the BUCS (British University and College Sports) Nationals 2025 competition later this week.
Trout is a starter on defence for the University of Nottingham Women’s Lacrosse Premier 1 team, which will enter the championship game as the No. 1 seed. She is a 2024 graduate of Union College where she started every game over her final two seasons, and a 2020 graduate of Central Catholic High School in Lawrence.
Meanwhile, Mueller is the starting center for the University of Nottingham American Football team, which is entering the National Championship game as the No. 2 seed. Mueller is a 2024 graduate of Colby College, and also graduated from Central Catholic High School in 2020.
Sign-ups available for 42nd annual April Fools Road Race
There’s still time to sign up for the 42nd annual April Fools 4-Mile Road Race, set to take place on Saturday, March 29th in Salisbury.
The event is one of the Winners Circle Running Club’s oldest races, second only to the Hangover Classic on New Year’s Day. It has become an important local fundraiser throughout the decades, with this year’s charities being The Pettingill House in Salisbury, as well as FosteringCare Inc. Donations will go to gift cards for teenagers moving into foster care, giving them some independence to purchase personal items during a difficult time in their lives.
The race is located at The Winners Circle Sports Bar in Salisbury. Runners and walkers of all abilities and ages are welcome, and cash awards will be given to the top-3 male and female finishers. Start time is 10 a.m. at the start/finish line on Old Elm Street.
