The Town of Lewiston has put together its committee for revising its long-outdated master plan.
The eight members of the committee include town Supervisor Steve Broderick, Town Board member Sarah Waechter, building inspectors Tim Masters and Ed Zimmerman, former director of the Upward Niagara Chamber of Commerce Jennifer Pauly, town planners Mark Gallo and Henry Sandonato, and town resident Steve Lyle.
Sandonato was named chairman and Pauly was named secretary.
Broderick said he was trying to get a diverse group on this committee, with members coming from Sanborn and the Lower River Road area. He is looking to get more farmers onto the committee.
“I’m really happy with the variety of people we got,” Broderick said. “Hopefully, they come up with a good plan.”
The town had previously awarded Wendel Companies a $35,000 contract for putting this plan together. The current master plan has been in place since 1999, with an attempt to revisit it happening in 2011.
The committee plans on holding up to five monthly meetings to discuss any changes needed for the town code. The new plan will look to address land use and zoning, agriculture, environmental and cultural resources, business development, parks, recreation and community facilities, and topics for future study.
Wendel will also put together a public outreach plan outlining their approach and timeline for gathering public data used for this process.
A public hearing will take place when a final draft of the master plan is complete. The town board will then hold a vote on adoption after that.
