A 26-year-old motorcycle operator died at the scene of a crash involving a sports car on Saunders Settlement Road Thursday night.
Emergency crews were called to the 2200 block of Saunders Settlement Road, near Niagara Wheatfield Hight School, about 9 p.m. Thursday for reports of the crash. The driver of the motorcycle was found unresponsive and members of the Sanborn Fire Department and Tri Community Ambulance rendered immediate aid, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Mercy Flight responded but was cancelled once they were on the ground.
The driver of the car was evaluated by paramedics at the scene but was uninjured.
Police said a preliminary investigation showed the motorcycle was heading east on Saunders Settlement Road and the car was heading west when it crossed into the eastbound lane and struck the motorcycle. The driver of the car was cooperating with police.
The crash is under investigation by the Lewiston Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit. Lewiston police were also assisted by the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, Niagara Falls police and Lewiston Fire Co. No. 2.
