Three is now a magic number for Lewiston-Porter golf.
With a 63-stroke advantage of the field, the Lancers won the Niagara Frontier League championship Tuesday at Willowbrook Golf Course in Lockport behind a collective score of 402.
Niagara Falls (465) placed second, while Niagara Wheatfield was third (478), Grand Island was fourth (483) and Kenmore East was fifth (487).
With the victory, Lew-Port clinched its first three-peat for the NFL since 1970 through 1972 and have now won or held a share of the title 18 times, including splitting with Lockport in the inaugural season in 1968. The Lancers finished with a 21-0 overall record, their first unbeaten season since they went 10-0 in 1994.
Individually, Lew-Port senior Peter Monahan won with a 2-under-par 70. Classmates Desi Patrick and Jamie Townsend and Niagara Falls’ Payton Hutchinson all finished 10 strokes back, while Grand Island’s Caden Sharkey placed fifth and 11 strokes off the lead.
Rounding out the qualifiers for the Section VI championships in May were Lew-Port’s Philip Monahan (83), Lockport’s Sam Radwinski (85) and Niagara Falls’ Sal Constantino (87). Lew-Port’s J.J. Lingari will serve as alternate after finishing with a score of 89.
The NFL qualifiers will be joined by seven competitors from the Niagara-Orleans League for the sectional field. Representing schools from the greater Niagara region are Wilson’s Benjamin Meyers, Medina’s Camden Fike and Ryleigh Culver and Newfane’s Caeleb Rivera, while Royalton-Hartland’s Evan Poeller serves as alternate.
An official site and date for the sectional championships will be announced at a future date.
