LAWRENCE — The city’s recently re-opened boat ramp will cost boaters $15 per use and proof of registration and insurance must be shown.
Ramp workers will also be checking to make sure personal safety equipment is onboard every boat, vessel or personal watercraft, authorities said.
The boat ramp will be open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until mid-October 2024, according to Mayor Brian DePena.
The ramp was closed in recent years due to issue with alcohol and drugs, loitering and people swimming and picnicking. Police have stressed the ramp is only to be used for putting in and pulling out boats from the Merrimack River.
DePena, in a statement, said the availability of the boat ramp signifies a significant milestone in the city’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its citizens by providing access to leisure and outdoor activities. It underscores the administration’s dedication to leveraging local and state resources to foster community engagement and wellness.
The reopening of the ramp, in Riverfront Park, is a testament to the collaborative efforts between city officials, state representatives, and the community, he said.
DePeña expressed his gratitude to all those who contributed to the project with special acknowledgement to state Rep. Frank Moran, D-Lawrence, whose partnership “was instrumental in revitalizing this beloved recreational spot for the residents of Lawrence and neighboring communities”
“We are proud to reopen the Public Boat Ramp in Lawrence, marking a significant development for local recreation. This momentous occasion reflects the collaborative spirit of our community. Together, we continue to work towards the betterment of Lawrence,” DePena said.
