The Fairfield Glade Ladies Invitational Golf Tournament committee presented $12,600 to four community nonprofits on Aug. 26 in the Art Circle Public Library Children’s Reading Room.
Representatives accepting on behalf of the agencies were Denise Melton with House of Hope; Emalee Breeding and Michael Brady with Cumberland County Schools Family Resource Center; Nancy Luckett with Support The Arts (STARTS); and James Houston with Cumberland County Imagination Library.
“The funds, raised during the tournament’s annual reception, will support the charities’ ongoing local projects and programs,” said Cathy Tipton of the Ladies Invitational committee. “Everyone agreed that the support would make a real difference to the children of Cumberland County.”
The funds were raised from the 50th annual Fairfield Glade Ladies Invitational Golf Tournament held on July 13-14.
Tipton said the tournament was a great success, with 202 players participating from 14 states.
Top winners were Karen Hendrix, Knoxville low gross flights 4-6; Angie Stanton, Fairfield Glade, low net flights 1-3; Cor Custer, Fairfield Glade, low net flights 4-6; and Sharon Kelly, Knoxville, low gross flights 1-3.
Tipton said $6,000 in prizes were paid across six flights, plus 10 special prizes were awarded. Thank you to the women who played in this 50th annual tournament.

“The guidance and support of the professional golf staff at Heatherhurst Golf Club as well as the Fairfield Glade Food & Beverage division ensured the ladies had a great weekend,” Tipton said. “No tournament is successful without the many committee members and the many volunteers and course staff in the clubhouse and on the course who worked tirelessly to ensure every aspect of the event ran smoothly.
