Get ready for a sweet time at Meridian Community College’s Candy Cruise on Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the MCC Track.
“This event has become a favorite for our community, and we’re excited to continue the tradition this year,” said Jan Murphy, MCC Eagle’s Nest Bookstore manager.
Hosted by the bookstore and sponsored by the MCC Foundation, Candy Cruise brings together students, faculty, staff and the public for a fun-filled evening. Nineteen teams from various campus programs and student organizations will set up booths along the track, offering candy, treats and smiles.
“The best thing about Candy Cruise is that it brings the college and community together,” Murphy said, adding, “Everyone is smiling and having a great time just enjoying each other’s company and costumes.”
Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Executive Director of the MCC Foundation Leia Hill said the foundation is proud to support the Candy Cruise.
“It’s a wonderful way to engage with the community and celebrate together,” she said. “This event embodies what we’re all about — building connections and creating memorable experiences that bring joy to everyone involved.”
Last year, more than 2,600 people attended, and some 1,300 pounds of candy were distributed by students, faculty, staff and MCC administration.
Each team will be dressed in festive costumes with creative themes, including The Magic School Bus, World of Lego, Oh the Places You’ll Go, Mad Scientists, Noah’s Ark, Hoop Dreams and more. MCC’s dental hygiene students will join the fun, dressed as tooth fairies to hand out toothbrushes and toothpaste.
Murphy also noted that there will be an early entry from 5-5:30 p.m. for guests with special needs, providing a calmer environment with fewer crowds, sensory-friendly items and more accessible parking access. The college introduced Candy Cruise in 2020 as a drive-through event during the pandemic, drawing hundreds of cars and over 1,000 participants. Since then, the event has evolved into an in-person celebration at the MCC Track.
“We’re always evaluating anything we can do to improve it,” Murphy added.
