The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office and SPCA of Niagara continue to look for leads after a second dog was found abandoned in a dumpster this weekend.
The dog, named George after by the SPCA after its Agent George Rhinehart, who rescued him along with Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies, was found in a dumpster behind a Wheatfield business on River Road on Saturday afternoon.
After an initial investigation, deputies determined that George had been abandoned shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday by the occupants of a dark truck.
After an evaluation at the SPCA, the dog was determined to be suffering from several debilitating illnesses and was euthanized on Saturday.
An investigation by the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Bureau and the Niagara SPCA is ongoing.
Anyone who recognizes the dog or who may have details about this incident is urged to call the SPCA’s Humane Investigations Department at 716-731-4368, ext 316.
The SPCA is also investigating a puppy was found in a dumpster behind a fast food business on Porter Road in the Town of Niagara on Wednesday morning.
Amy Lewis, executive director of the Niagara SPCA, said the puppy has an embedded microchip that links it to an owner out of state.
Attorney Dominic Saraceno is offering a $3,000 reward to whoever provides information on the person who placed the puppy with a tag that identifies him as “Salassie” in the dumpster.
Anyone who can provide information regarding the vehicle or a person caught by surveillance cameras leaving the puppy is urged to reach out to the SPCA’s humane investigations officer at 716-731-4368, ext. 316.
