VALDOSTA — Valdosta State senior softball outfielder Morgan Hill was named Second Team Academic All-America® as selected by College Sports Communicators, the organization announced Tuesday. This is Hill’s third Academic All-America selection as she earned first team honors in 2021 and second team honors in 2023.
Hill, a native of Lake Park, has a 3.97 grade point average in interdisciplinary studies. Hill was previously awarded the President’s Award for Academic Excellence in 2023 while also earning both VSU Female and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors in 2022-23.
Hill had an incredible 2024 season, playing and starting in all 54 games this year. She hit for .341 on the year with a team-high 61 hits in 179 plate appearances and tallied 58 runs on the season with a team-best 15 doubles, one triple and 15 home runs for 41 RBI. She also snagged a team-best 17 stolen bases and slugged .687 percent while getting on base at a .439 rate.
Defensively, Hill has tallied 89 putouts with five assists and just one error for a .989 fielding percentage while also helping turn one double play. She was named to both the All-Gulf South Conference Second Team and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Region Second Team for her notable senior season.
Last season, she became the fourth Blazer to earn multiple Academic All-America honors joining Shawn Hardin (Baseball, 1992 & 1993), Chris Hatcher (Football, 1993 and 1994) and her older sister Logan Hill (Softball, 2020 and 2021).
Hill has displayed excellence on the field and in the classroom. She was named GSC All-Academic in 2021, 2022 and 2023 as well as earning GSC honor roll every year since her freshman season in 2020. Hill has also been named GSC Player of the Week on multiple occasions throughout her career and was named All-GSC in 2021.
