A residence on the 300 block of Hawley Street sustained significant damage due to a fire Tuesday afternoon. Two occupants were able to exit the house safely before firefighting crews arrived and they are now in temporary housing arranged by American Red Cross.
Personnel from Lockport Fire Department were dispatched to 364 Hawley St. about 3:40 p.m., on a 911 caller’s report of a house fire with flames visible in a bedroom. Arriving firefighters observed flames venting from a second-floor window on the rear of the house, which threatened a neighboring house, so two hose lines were deployed simultaneously to protect the neighboring house and attack the fire, according to Fire Chief Luca Quagliano.
The bulk of the fire was extinguished within 15 minutes, and direct fire damage was contained to the second floor of the house, but almost the entirety of the house sustained smoke and water damage, Quagliano said. The property damage estimate is $40,000.
No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported. The cause of the fire remained under investigation by LFD Tuesday night.
