A 5-year-old boy remains in serious condition at Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo, a day after being trapped under a vehicle in the driveway of a home on Ellicott Road in Hartland.
Deputies with the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit are continuing their probe of the incident, which they say “appears to be accidental in nature.”
Sheriff’s investigators said those at the home at the time of the accident have been fully cooperating with their work.
The accident occurred in the driveway of an Ellicott Road residence at around 5:10 p.m. Monday. The first deputies on the scene said they found a young boy unconscious and trapped under a vehicle.
Deputies said they were assisted by EMS, other law enforcement officers and bystanders in getting the vehicle lifted and freeing the child. Once freed, EMTs began administering medical treatment to the child.
Once the boy’s condition was stabilized, he was transported to the hospital by Mercy Flight. He is being treated in the Oishei Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Sheriff’s officials said they were assisted by New York State Police, Middleport Village Police and Wright’s Corners Volunteer Fire Co.
