OAKLAND — Hampshire won the area golf championship match and Southern took home the Western Maryland Athletic Conference title.
Both competitions took place at the Oakland Country Club. The area match was on Sept. 25 and the WestMAC contest on Oct. 1.
Hampshire, Petersburg and Southern were separated by just five strokes at the area meet, with the Trojans shooting a 238, Petersburg a 241 and Southern a 243.
Northern and Keyser tied for fourth at 252, followed by Allegany (261), Moorefield (263), Frankfort (279), Mountain Ridge (288) and Fort Hill (331).
Petersburg’s Lucas Riggleman won the individual title, besting Keyser’s Ryan Pratt in the first hole of a playoff after the Potomac Valley Conference duo both shot 72s.
Southern’s Jesse Campbell was third at 75, and the Rams’ Carter Goff (77), Northern’s Wyatt Johnson (78), Allegany’s Treah Grassi (78), Hampshire’s Landin Ludwick (79), Frankfort’s Bryson Moorehead (79), Hampshire’s Peyton Van Meter (79) and Parker Charlton (80) and Moorefield’s Drake Kimble (82) rounded out the top 11.
Southern won the WestMAC match with a 338. Allegany and Northern tied for second at 340, Mountain Ridge took fourth with a 401 and Fort Hill shot a 405.
Northern’s Johnson was the low medalist with a 75, and Grassi and Campbell tied for second at 79.
Fort Hill’s John Reinhardt placed fourth (82), followed by Goff (83), Alco’s Chris Manherz (84), Southern’s Amelia Alvarez (84), Northern’s Logan Kelly (85) and Quinton Sigmund (87) and the Campers’ Nick Wilt (87).
