PLATTSBURGH — Greyhound has a new bus stop location again.
Just three months after setting up a bus stop at the former Farmer’s Market building in the Durkee Street parking lot in the City of Plattsburgh, Greyhound has moved to the Sunoco gas station at 485 Route 3 in the Town of Plattsburgh.
Supervisor Michael Cashman said the gas station owner made upgrades to the facility specifically for Greyhound/Flix to operate there.
“We had the Planning Board and the Planning Department work with the owner-operator of the gas station in regards to being able to have a bus drop off at location,” Cashman said.
“And he went through the process of going to the Planning Board and doing his due diligence to do some upgrades to that facility to make the appropriate accommodations. So the town hasn’t been engaged with Greyhound (directly), but it does allow for that property to now service Greyhound.”
Greyhound has had several new bus stops in the last six months.
Before moving to the Durkee Street location in September, Greyhound had been using the Clinton County Government Center, where the county’s Public Transportation buses stop daily. They moved there in July after they left the stop at Mountain Mart on Route 9 north of Cumberland Corners in the Town of Plattsburgh.
Cashman said the move to Route 3 had been in the works while all those transitions were taking place.
“It goes back to several months ago when they were looking for an alternative site, when they initially were moving out of Mountain Mart,” Cashman said.
“But there were some upgrades that needed to occur, including, but not limited to, doing some new striping for bus directional. They needed to do some changes to some stairs on the backside of the building, and they also needed to make some modifications to allow for people to be able to go into the facility, so that they wouldn’t be out in the elements.”
Cashman said the town will ensure this bus stop will be held to the standards of any business.
“I think it’s important to note that, like any business where we had a conversation with the owner-operator, we will continue to be engaged with that individual to meet the various health and safety aspects.”
City of Plattsburgh Mayor Chris Rosenquest said he is in conversation with Trailways, another bus company, to have them also move out of the downtown bus stop location.
