Gloucester’s sailing team rolled into the regular season on Wednesday afternoon with a convincing 3-1 win over visiting Wayland/Natick in high school team racing action.
The Fishermen swept through the best-of-five series, getting “some very nifty skippering by Ryan Lewis, Aidan Woods and Amos Telep,” said coach Gordon Baird.
“It allowed us to give the younger back-up ‘super-subs’ a shot, too,” added the coach. “They almost pulled off their own win in the last race.”
Gloucester is off a strong start, having finished second out of 15 competitive programs in a previous tournament in Boston to open the season last week. Next up, Baird’s crew will take on Hingham at noon in the harbor on Saturday.
