Fairfield Glade Rotary Club members recently learned the club led Rotary District 6780 in giving for the Purple Pinkie Day doughnut fundraiser for polio eradication.
The district includes 62 Rotary Clubs throughout East and Middle Tennessee.
“Nearly $1.6 million was raised by Rotary worldwide, which exceeds the goal of $1.5 million,” said Mark Baldwin of the Fairfield Glade Rotary Club. “Of that total, $55,000 came from our Rotary District.”
Purple Pinkie Day is a way for Rotary Clubs to raised funds to End Polio Now, an effort by Rotary Club International to eradicate polio worldwide.
Fairfield Glade Rotary Club joined Dunkin Oct. 24 by buying boxes of Purple Pinkie doughnuts, boxes of which were shared with Fairfield Glade Police Department and at The Center at Fairfield Glade.
Baldwin said this year’s funding brings Rotary’s seven-year Purple Pinkie total to more than $7.5 million.
