The 56th annual Open Show at the Oak Ridge Art Center had a record-breaking amount of amazing art entries totaling 540 submissions.
Twelve members of the Art Guild at Fairfield Glade submitted artwork. Six of those members had pieces accepted into the show, and three received honors.
Sally Neckvatal received the E. Puribus Unum Award for excellence in collage or assemblage for Mrs. Cat Sings Tonight, a 3D mixed-media creation.
Kirsten Murray received the Sisyphus Award for exceptionally or manically detailed work in any medium for her jewelry entry, Fields of Green.
Tom Neckvatal’s wood creation Fanfare received an honorable mention sponsored by Jerry’s Art-A-Rama.
Art Guild members who also had entries in the show were Linda Engel with her oil-on-canvas pieces From the Earth and Abandoned; Twyla Marti with Waterlilies, a fiber, creation; and Dale Soblo with a watercolor-on-paper piece, Lisianthus.
Sally Neckvatal had an additional piece in the show, her 3D fiber Garden Caregiver .
The judge/juror for this show was David Underwood, professor of art and department head at Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tennessee. He had the daunting task of selecting only 125 pieces to be displayed in the gallery for the 2024 Open Show.
