MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Garrett County Post 71/208/214 fell in its opener at the Mountaineer County Invitational on Friday, falling to Beckley Bash Post 32, 8-4, at Mylan Park.
Garrett (1-8) kept pace early trailing 3-2 after three innings before Beckley scored four in the fourth and two in the fifth to distance itself.
Devin McKenzie had two hits for Garrett, and Ryan Bird added two runs batted in.
Cole Parks was dealt the loss on the mound, allowing six runs (five earned) on five hits in 3 1/3 innings. Blake Burrell gave up two runs on a hit in 2 2/3 frames of relief.
Beckley’s Degan Williams hit a solo home run and drove in two runs, Maddex Sims had three RBIs and Levi Barnett had a pair, Gage Price singled twice, Nelson Lynch scored three runs, and Ashton Cochran doubled.
Eli Hilling was the winning arm out of the bullpen, surrendering two runs on three hits in 3 1/3 innings, striking out five and walking four.
Garrett County rounds out pool play on Saturday when it takes on Lancaster Post 11, Ohio, at 3:30 p.m. and Zanesville Post 29, Ohio, at 8:30 p.m.
Potomac Valley 11 Belle Vernon 11
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Potomac Valley Post 64 rallied to tie Belle Vernon in its first game of the Mountaineer Country Invitational on Thursday at Mylan Park.
Potomac Valley (5-1-1) scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 11 when the game was called for time.
Future Charleston teammates Lanson Orndorf and Blake Jacobs both had three-hit games for Post 64, with Orndorf tripling and scoring twice and Jacobs doubling and scoring three times.
James Vincell, a Pendleton County grad at Concord, went 3 for 5 and doubled twice, Jaxon Hare had two hits and scored twice, Landon Tysinger doubled and drove in two, and Lucas Williamson doubled.
Carson Durst pitched the first six innings for Potomac Valley, and Orndorf threw the seventh.
Belle Vernon’s Vito Francia clubbed a two-run home run, and Cam Matusik and Max Manley doubled.
Potomac Valley concludes pool play on Saturday against the Yukon Miners, Pennsylvania, at 1 p.m. and Chillicothe Post 757 Colts, Ohio, at 3:30 p.m.
