WARRENSBURG — Cornell Cooperative Extension of Warren County has scheduled the following workshops:
— Game of Logging Level 1 – Wednesday, Aug. 6
— Game of Logging Level 2 – Thursday, Aug. 7
Due to a grant from Workforce Development Institute, the extension offers this class for $90 per person, per workshop. Normally the fees are $200 per course, organizers said.
The organizers said in a press release that $45 of the $90 fee is a non-refundable deposit. Cancellations occurring before July 28 will be refunded $45. Cancellations occurring on or after July 28 will not be refunded.
Game of Logging Level 1 course will focus on introducing the participant to open face felling and to develop techniques to safely fall a tree. Topics include personal protective equipment, chainsaw safety features, chainsaw reactive forces, bore cutting, pre-planning the fell and understanding hinge wood strength, the release stated.
Game of Logging Level 2 course will focus on maximizing chainsaw performance through basic maintenance, carburetor setting, and filing techniques. Limbing and bucking techniques will be introduced, spring-pole cutting is covered and more felling is practiced, the release stated.
Participants must bring all safety gear including chaps, helmets, eye and ear protection, and boots (preferably with safety toe). Participants must also bring a gas-powered saw, gas and oil to run it, the release stated.
Classes start at 7:30 a.m. and run until 5 p.m. The classes will be held at 157 Goodman Road, Johnsburg. There is a minimum of six people per course to be able to run the workshops. In the event of cancellation due to low registration, a full refund will be issued.
