ATHENS, W.Va. — In less than three full seasons, Emilee Weakley became Frostburg State’s all-time leading scorer on Saturday.
Weakley surpassed Sheila Colbert in Saturday’s 79-77 loss at Concord with 1,974 points after scoring 28.
Colbert held the previous record with 1,960 points since 1991.
Weakley led Division II in scoring with 25.5 points per game as a freshman and 25.2 last season and is on pace to do it again this season averaging 27.7.
Weakley is the third player in Division II women’s basketball history to lead the nation in scoring twice and would become the first to do it three times.
Iowa’s Caitlin Clark is the only Division I player to lead the nation in scoring three times while Jeannie Demers of Buena Vista is the only player to do it at any level of NCAA competition.
Demers did it three years in a row from 1985-87 at Division III Buena Vista.
The Bobcats head to West Virginia State on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
