GIRLS BASKETBALL
Bishop Fenwick 55, Archbishop Williams 39: Big games from junior captains Caitlin Boyle (22 points, 10 rebounds, 4 blocks) and Celia Neilson (11 points, 9 assists, 7 rebounds, 5 steals) propelled the Crusaders to a Catholic Central League triumph. Kyleigh Pidgeon, a sophomore, added nine points for Fenwick (now 4-1) while senior Sienna Mancinelli finished with five points.
Hamilton-Wenham 37, Ipswich 17: The Generals raced out to a 9-0 lead after one quarter and led by 18 (22-4) at halftime en route to winning its fourth game in five tries this winter. Sasha Makogonov led Hamilton-Wenham with 10 points, with bench players playing the entirety of the second half.
Hazel Hoog of Ipswich led all scorers with 11 points.
Swampscott 48, Whittier 44: Freshman Anna Kanders continued her hot start as a high school player by scoring a team-best 20 points for the Big Blue in their win. Junior Sam Ward connected on three 3-pointers en route to finishing with 11 points, while sophomore Olivia Quagrello added nine points. Maddie Lilley, a junior, had a big night on the glass by grabbing seven rebounds.
Masconomet 53, Marblehead 21: Kaia Reardon and Ruby DiCarlo scored their first varsity points as the Chieftains defeated their Northeastern Conference rivals. Eleven different players had points for Masconomet, led by Ava Allen’s 13. Angie Lalikos added six points, seven rebounds and four steals for the winners.
Pentucket 61, Essex Tech 21: Avery Barteaux led the Hawks offensively with six points, while Marissa Perez added five and both Adriana Lassus and Janelle Dalton finished with four. The loss dropped Essex Tech to 2-3 on the season.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Peabody 59, Salem Academy 34: Jariel Tolentino (19 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals) and Thad Broughton (15 points, 11 rebounds, 4 steals) both had highly productive nights as the Tanners pulled away for a non-league win. Mark Mendonca (6 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals), Jimmy Festa (3 points, 4 rebounds) and Joe Smith (3 points) also helped their squad emerge victorious, with teammate Stephen Brown also playing well for Peabody (now 3-3).
Beverly 79, Danvers 65: Junior captain Jacob Klass continued his high scoring ways, pouring in 26 points to lead the Orange-and-Black to their sixth win in eight contests. Isaac Saas also had a huge night for the Panthers, finishing with 14 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. Freshman freshman Connie Panda added a career high 12 points along with five rebounds.
Kevin Ahearn had 14 points and five rebounds in three quarters of action for the Falcons, with Kyle Sillars adding 14 points and seven rebounds.
Salem 64, Gloucester 56: Elian Rodriguez and Nate Lane both scored 22 points, allowing the Witches to earn an important Northeastern Conference victory on the road. Lane hit five 3-pointers to go with eight rebounds, four assists and three steals, with Rodriguez hitting a pair of trifectas, grabbing five boards, dishing out four dimes and earning two steals. Canei McLeod added a double digit performance (15 points, 10 rebounds) for Salem, which got four rebounds, three assists and two steals from captain Rocco Ryan as well.
Hamilton-Wenham 49, Ipswich 32: Caden Schrock scored 15 points as the Generals used a strong second quarter to take a 10-point lead into halftime, then hold off the Tigers’ second half charge. AB Labell finished with 11 points for the winners (now 2-3), Alex Mengoni added 10 and Liam O’Bannon canned a three-pointer that gave his team an 18-point lead after three quarters.
Rex Satter had a team-best 11 points for Ipswich (1-3) and James Norris added nine while Cullen Courville (4 points) scored his first career basket. The Tigers led 11-10 after one quarter and sliced their deficit to seven at one point in the third.
Archbishop Williams 67, Bishop Fenwick 38: Nate Addler scored 15 for the Crusaders in a CCL setback.
Masconomet 60, Marblehead 52: Jimmy Farrell had 15 points and Jamason Vella had 18 with 13 boards as the Chieftains prevailed in an NEC battle at home. Cal Weidman and Ryan Richardson provided excellent defense for Masco and Thomas Denton (10 points) was a second half sparkplug.
Marblehead was lead by Finn Baron with a game-high 21 while Finn Gallup added 16.
BOYS HOCKEY
Beverly 7, Amesbury 3: Junior Logan Bowen finished with a hat trick plus two assists for a 5-point night as the Panthers (3-3) earned a satisfying road victory. Sophomore Anthony Barror added a pair of goals while both Connor Wallace and defenseman Ryan Everett added one goal and two assists. Captains Jonny Mezza (2) and Thomas Simeone plus Nathan Wheeler and Xander Alexeyev also had assists for BHS, which got 25 saves from captain PJ Redman in net.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE HOCKEY
Middlebury 4, Endicott 2: Against the nation’s top ranked Division 3 squad, Gulls goalie Lauren Ferrari made 31 saves in an excellent showing. Rivers Morris gave Endicott (9-4) a 1-0 lead just 64 seconds in, then assisted on teammate Lily Anderson’s power play goal later in the first period that sliced the home team’s deficit to 3-32. The visiting Panthers added an empty net goal late to win this tight battle.
