GIRLS LACROSSE
Danvers 15, Gloucester 9: Liv Henry finished with four goals, seven assists and 11 points to go along with 10 draw controls to give the Falcons their first win of the season. Sienna Goldberg also had a huge game for Danvers (now 1-3) after scoring four goals and dishing out three assists. Hannah Tersolo added three goals and an assist for the winners, who also got two goals and two assists from Addie Moore, two more goals from Amy Nako, and a terrific defensive game from Izzy Latusky.
Swampscott 15, Marblehead 9: Cecilia Tripp had five goals, Bridget Maloney scored four and Lilah Caplan had nine saves to push the Big Blue (3-1) by their rivals. Quinn Kelleher added a hat trick for Swampscott while Fiona Keaney scored two and Victoria Pierro (goal) and Reagen Pelletier (two goals) had three points each.
Marblehead (1-3), which trailed by just one at halftime, got four goals from Zoe Dwyer as well as a two goal effort by Addie Co Peeps.
Beverly 19, Winthrop 4: Madz LeBlanc scored a team-high four goals with two assists while Sasha Miller wound up with three goals, two assists and six draw controls as the Panthers rolled. Freshman Marisa Hutton had two goals and three assists, with plenty of other contributions from Ashley Wallace (goal, 4 assists), Gwen Jones (2 goals, 2 assists), CC Blank (2 goals), Charlotte Bilotti (goal, assist, 5 DCs), Ella Faulkner (goal), Meghan Potter (goal) and Nola Redman (goal). Madeline Reynolds and Megan McCormack split the game between the pipes.
Hamilton-Wenham 16, North Reading 6: Junior Jane Boardman scored five times and Grace Glidden had four goals with four assists to power the unbeaten Generals (5-0). Evie Bernard added two goals with three assists with Bailey Shepherd scoring twice and Maddie Graber, Caroline Ciriello and Lucine Revette netting one each. Senior Rowan Sheckells was great in net and 8th grader Hazel McWilliams was strong in a relief appearance.
Landmark 10, Waring 5: Emma DeVallis scored five times with one assist and goaltender Kenady Dorr finished with 12 saves to power Landmark to victory.
BOYS LACROSSE
Marblehead 6, Swampscott 5: Kyle Thibodeau scored twice, including the game-winner, as the Magicians (now 2-2) earned a measure of revenge over their arch rivals after falling to them 10 days earlier. Goalie Colin Maniaci had a strong game in net with 10 saves. Additional scoring came from Will Kinahan (goal, assist), Tyler Forbes (goal), Bailey Finkle (goal), captain Grady Becker (goal), Owen Dulac (2 assists) and Reid Wysor (assist).
Colton Alex was spectacular in net for Swampscott (now 2-2), making a season high 20 saves. Emerson Joy had a goal and an assist while other Big Blue scorers included Tyler Ostroff, Ollie Braham, Will Rowe and Johnny Marino. The hosts overcame a 3-1 halftime deficit to tie the game at 4-4 heading into the final quarter.
Hamilton-Wenham 17, Saugus 5: Surging to their fourth victory in five games thus far, the Generals had five different players score their first varsity goals: sophomore attack Marcus Micalizzi (2 goals), first-year player Gus Tratnyek (2 goals, 3 assists), sophomore attack Ian Slocum, sophomore middie Brendan Burke, sophomore Finn Deno, and sophomore long pole Ben Leland. In addition, Billy Brown (3 goals, 3 assists), Reid Faldi (2 goals, 2 assists), Zac Sachsel (2 goals, assist), Anthony Folger (goal, 3 assists) and Leo Tratnyek (goal) also reached the scoresheet.
Winthrop 12, Beverly 7: The Panthers (2-2) dropped their second straight after leading at halftime, 5-4. Brian Sauk had his first varsity goal for Beverly, while Bodie Wagner (3 goals, assist), Chris McKie (assist), Will Johnson and Will Burgess also scored. Freshman Jacob Munoz won 9-of-16 faceoffs, and goalie Graham Ferretti finished with nine saves.
Landmark 14, Lexington Christian 3: Now 3-0 on the season, Landmark got four goals and five assists from Jake Kelly as well as tallies form Wade Barnes and Jack Doherty.
BASEBALL
Swampscott 16, Winthrop 2: Caden Ross launched three home runs, finishing with five RBI and four runs scored, and Michael Collins also hit a 3-run bomb with the hot-hitting Big Blue moving to 3-1. Chase Groothuis opened the scoring with a 3-run double in the first and sophomore Tommy Cuttle earned the win with three strong inning and no walks.
Marblehead 15, Peabody 5: Greyson Leventhal had four of Marblehead’s 16 hits and the Magicians (2-2) came alive in the fourth and fifth, scoring 13 unanswered runs after falling behind 5-2. EJ Wyman had three hits and three RBI for Marblehead and Owen Coyne also had three hits.
Peabody (1-2) saw Pedro Flores hit a double and Jake Crocker record two of his team’s six total hits.
Pingree 4, Governor’s Academy 1: Jack Spear struck out nine over five innings and the Highlanders (3-1) beat another ISL squad in impressive fashion. Matt McDonald hit two doubles while Meteus Feck got on base four times and scored twice and Aidan Horgan, Jonah Richardson and Ben Chisholm came up with hits.
BOYS TENNIS
Marblehead 3, Hamilton-Wenham 2: With four of the five matches going to three sets, the Magicians (now 3-1) prevailed by winning all three singles matches. Those triumphs came from Ty Cooper (0-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2) at first singles, Alex Boehning (7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (8-6) at second singles, and Adam Loughlin (6-2, 4-6, 6-3) in the third spot.
Hamilton-Wenham saw Patrick Driscoll and William Gregory win at first doubles (7-6, 4-6, 4-6), with the second doubles squad of Jonas D’Arigo and Ryan Minnaar also emerging victorious (6-2, 7-6 (7-3)).
Newburyport 5, Ipswich 0: The Tigers were blanked in a CAL battle.
Pentucket 4, Danvers 1: Third singles player Connor DiTomaso picked up the lone win for Danvers (now 1-4) with a 7-6, 7-3 win. First doubles teammates Jack Chronis and Anthony Gaudino also turned in a strong showing despite falling, 6-1, 7-6 (7-2).
Rockport 3, Beverly 2: The Panthers stumbled on the road in a non-league contest, falling to 1-1 on the year. Giacomo Guarienti (6-1, 6-0) and Logan Hall (6-4, 7-5) came up winners in singles play for the Orange-and-Black.
GIRLS TENNIS
Hamilton-Wenham 4, Marblehead 1: The Generals remained unbeaten at 3-0 behind straight sets wins from Krishna Guruju (6-0, 6-4), Charlotte Ireland (6-0, 6-1) and the teams of Gabriella Jewitt/Madeline Fennell (6-3, 6-2) and Sofie Greene/Evelyn Esdaile (6-2, 6-4). Marblehead’s win came from Samara Dosch with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph.
Ipswich 5, Gloucester 0: The Tigers dropped only eight games all afternoon to win all five matches in straight sets and improve to 3-1 as a team. Mae Borgman (6-1, 6-0), Abbie Allen (6-2, 6-0) and Leila Harb (6-0, 6-0) won in singles, while Sarah Belford and Phoebe Allen (6-2, 6-0) plus Eve Melzack and Anna Kalinowski (6-1,6-2) completed the sweep in doubles.
Danvers 5, St. Mary’s 0: The Falcons swept behind Josie Vogel (6-0, 6-0), Isabel Beaudoin (6-0, 6-0), Gabby Lindeman (6-7, 6-3, 10-5) and the teams of Molly Verhoosky/Laoura Tavares (6-7, 6-3, 10-8) and Avery Hertigan/Ari Fajardo (6-3, 6-4).
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Revere 3, Essex Tech 0: The Hawks suffered a road setback, falling to 2-5 on the season.
MEN’S COLLEGE TENNIS
Endicott 7, Gordon 0: Conrad Kadel, Drew Benporath, Eric Scalici, Antonio Marsallo, Spencer Smith and Aaron Terpko posted singles wins to enable to Gulls to blank the Scots.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Gordon splits: The Scots earned an 8-4 win over UNE after losing 10-1 to split a CNE doubleheader. Emily Graham came on for the win, improving to 4-0 herself, and also drove in two runs while Emily Hutchins had a 3-for-4 effort.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Salem State 19, Fitchburg State 9: Salem’s Jack Doyle had a career outing, hitting a single, a double, a triple and collecting six RBI as the Vikings (9-10) outslugged the Falcons. Salem State racked up 21 total hits with Owen Duggan, Aidan Lynch and Michael Buccaro getting three each and Yabdriel Gonzalez posting a four-hit effort.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE
Framingham State 8, Salem State 5: Two goals apiece from Aislinn Bennett and Laura Young weren’t enough to prevent the Vikings (now 8-2) from dropping their second straight contest. Kaylee Rich of Danvers came up with a goal and one assist for SSU and goalie Nora Bradley made eight saves.
