SUNY Niagara is partnering with the state Department of Taxation and Finance to offer in‑person tax preparation assistance at no cost to individuals who earned $89,000 or less in 2025.
The college is hosting sessions for participants to work one‑on‑one with state tax department representatives who will guide them step‑by‑step through filing their 2025 returns online using secure, state‑approved software.
Librarian-Instructor Andrew Aquino of the Lewis Library at SUNY Niagara has organized this annual event for the past several years. He says that community members who have taken advantage of this service have appreciated it.
“These sessions have become popular for the college and the community,” Aquino said. “It’s easy to put off doing taxes because it can be a bit intimidating. What we hear from participants is that collaborating with experts makes the whole process more approachable and gives them greater confidence when they file.”
The free Taxpayer Assistance Program will be held most Wednesdays through April 15 at two locations:
SUNY Niagara Lewis Library, 3111 Saunders Settlement Road, Sanborn
Niagara Falls Culinary Institute, 28 Old Falls Street, Niagara Falls
Registration is required and available online at www.sunyniagara.edu/taxes.
Participants need access to a valid email account and are asked to bring all 2025 tax documents and, if possible, a copy of their 2024 tax return to their session. Basic computer skills are required. Attendees may choose to use on‑site computers or bring their own laptop, tablet, or mobile device.
