CUMBERLAND — No. 2 Fort Hill outlasted No. 4 Mountain Ridge in a five-game thriller Monday.
The Sentinels (6-1 overall, 3-1 Western Maryland Athletic Conference) dropped the first two games 25-17 and 25-16 before winning the next three 25-17, 25-14 and 15-13 to take the match.
Mountain Ridge fell to 4-3 (2-2 WestMAC).
Fort Hill was paced by Addison Furstenberg, Kamryn Rice and Jovie Breitfeller who tallied double-doubles. Furstenberg had 17 kills and 10 blocks, Rice had 39 assists, 12 service points and eight digs, and Breitfeller had 21 digs, 10 kills and three aces.
MaeLeigh Plummer added 16 kills and nine points, Tatum Bishop recorded 16 digs and Ava McFarland finished with 11 digs and three aces.
Kealana Pua’auli led Mountain Ridge with a triple-double garnering 15 service points, 18 digs, 11 kills and three aces. Ryan Whitehead had a double-double with 25 kills and 14 digs, and Makayla Ziler added 12 service points, two aces and three digs, and Aubreigh Wilson recorded five points, three digs, two kills and two bocks.
Fort Hill won the junior varsity match 2-0 to improve to 8-0. The Sentinels JVs haven’t lost a game this year.
Summer Welsh had 13 assists and three digs for the Sentinels, Caiti Willison tallied eight digs, Caniyah Plummer garnered four kills and three aces and Corrine Spriggs racked up five kills and four aces.
Lainey Clark, Nadia plackq, Jaylin Johnson and Addyson Haines all had two service points for Mountain Ridge.
Fort Hill hosted No. 2 Northern (5-1 overall, 4-1 WestMAC) on Tuesday and is at Allegany (2-6 overall, 1-3 WestMACO on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
Mountain Ridge hosted Southern (3-5 overall, 0-3 WestMAC) on Tuesday and hosts Bishop Walsh on Monday at 6 p.m.
Hampshire 3, Allegany 0
CUMBERLAND — Hampshire swept Allegany Monday winning by game scores of 25-22, 25-11 and 25-22.
Leading Allegany were Ava Strother with 10 assists, seven digs and an ace, Mackenzie Monahan with 10 digs and six kills, and Chloe DeBlock with six kills, four digs and an ace.
Statistics for Hampshire were not provided.
Hampshire won the JV match 2-1. Rylee Shaffer had eight digs, five aces and two kills for Allegany, and Claire Buskirk added eight digs and a kill
Allegany is at Keyser (4-4) on Thursday at 7:15 p.m. Hampshire (5-7-2) is at Berkeley Springs on Saturday.
Calvary sweeps C.V., falls 3-2 to Morgantown
CRESAPTOWN — No. 5 Calvary split a pair of matches, sweeping Cumberland Valley on Friday before falling in five sets to Morgantown Christian on Monday.
Against Morgantown Christian, the Eagles (13-5) won the second and third sets 25-15 and 26-24, but lost the first set 26-24 and the final two 25-19 and 15-13.
“Our defense had their hands full last night,” Calvary head coach John Wall said. “Morgantown had solid, big hitters across the front on every rotation.”
Allie Maust recorded a double-double with 23 assists and 14 digs, also adding three aces.
Paula Ganoe also had a double-double with 24 kills, 18 digs and five blocks.
Madie Robinette finished with 15 assists, nine digs and nine kills.
“We were able to stave off the Mustangs attackers for much of the match, but we just couldn’t stop all of their kills,” Wall said. “They are a very big and physical team.”
Against Cumberland Valley, the Eagles won 25-15, 25-14 and 25-10.
Ganoe recorded another double-double with 19 kills and 10 digs.
Robinette recorded 15 assists, nine kills and seven digs.
Maust added 10 assists with four digs and three aces.
Reagan Getz finished with 10 dios, three assists and two kills.
Calvary hosted Heritage on Tuesday.
“Our little team continues to impress me,” Wall said. “Week after week, we face much bigger teams and we push them all the way to the end of a tie breaker.”
