WILMINGTON, Del. — Former WVU Potomac State College pitcher Alexander Meckley made his High-A debut in the Washington Nationals organization on Sunday.
Meckley was drafted by the Nationals in the 12th round, 350th overall in last year’s draft.
Meckley made his High-A debut for the Wilmington Blue Rocks and went 5 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs off seven hits and two walks with six strikeouts.
He posted a 3.78 ERA across 85 2/3 innings in Low-A, allowing 36 earned runs off 83 hits and 39 walks with 70 strikeouts.
As a sophomore at Potomac State, Meckley went 2-3 with a 2.96 ERA.
He struck out 73 and walked 17 across 45 2/3 innings, earning All-American and All-Region 20 honors.
Meckley went on to Division I Coastal Carolina and threw 52 2/3 innings, posting a 7.57 ERA with 57 strikeouts against 27 walks.
While his numbers dropped, scouts liked his velocity and movement with a fastball topping out at 98 miles per hour as a prospect.
