HAVERHILL — In one of the wildest Merrimack Valley Conference football games to remember, the Billerica Indians defeated the Haverhill Hillies, 83-54, on Friday night at Haverhill Stadium.
The teams combined to score eleven first half touchdowns before adding eight more in the second half.
Haverhill quarterback James Farrell had five rushing touchdowns, one passing TD, threw for 234 yards and rushed for 130 yards.
“It’s a tough loss and obviously I’m angry,” he said. “We could have put up 80 points like Billerica did if we executed better. We just have to keep getting better. I think we played better tonight than we did last week.”
Haverhill (1-3) freshman running back Bryan Dos Santos finished with 156 rushing yards and two scores.
“We did some really good things offensively. James is an excellent quarterback and he can really throw that thing,” said Haverhill head coach Rob Pike. “Up front we did a good job of protecting him and we opened up some running lanes for Bryan Dos Santos. He had an excellent game. He’s just a freshman and going to be a good one. Our receivers made plays. It’s just Billerica made more plays than we did.”
Billerica (2-2) quarterback Steven Gentile had six rushing touchdowns with 230 rushing yards, while he also threw for 112 yards with another score. Judd Dorival rushed for 213 yards with two scores.
