Ever wondered what it takes to put on a production at the Cumberland Playhouse? Or where does all the clean water you drink come from? Did you know that there is a Yak Ranch located in Crossville?
Those who participate in Conrad Tours know all about this along with other fascinating things in Cumberland County and the surrounding area.
Conrad Tours was started by John Conrad in 2013. Memberships are $20 per year and offer members opportunities to tour businesses and organizations throughout Cumberland County. More than 20 volunteers set up the tours and accompany participants to see the behind-the-scenes workings of these businesses along with learning their story of how they came to be.
In 2024, Conrad Tours arranged 180 tours to 77 different destinations. New locations are added regularly.
Multiple tours are offered each week, and members receive an email to sign up. The tours are free with membership, though one or two may have a small cost. Members will need to provide their own transportation to the destination.
Tour participants are encouraged to check the attendee list to make sure they are on the tour list. Several days before the tour, they will receive emailed instructions with all the details, including date, time, parking information and where to meet.
Some of the upcoming tours in March include the Crossville Recycling Center, Bristol Road Winery and Kids on the Rise. April tours include the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, the Cumberland County Playhouse and the Children’s Holocaust Museum.
