Epstein Hillel School in Marblehead will honor Amy and Mark Adrian Farber of Gloucester, who are recipients of the Dr. Bennett I. Solomon Community Leadership Award.
The Farbers will receive the award at the school’s annual gala celebration this Sunday, Nov. 3, in Marblehead.
The gala will feature entertainment by stand-up comedian Joel Chasnoff, who is known for his comedy based on real-life Jewish experiences.
East Gloucester residents, the Farbers have been actively involved in the North Shore’s business, civic and faith communities for nearly 50 years.
Mark Farber is the fourth of five generations of independent shoe retailers, and with Amy, founded Mark Adrian Shoes in Gloucester in 1975. Their son Adam became the new owner and fifth generation after Mark’s retirement in 2017. The business is looking forward to marking its 50th anniversary in 2025.
Among their innumerable volunteer and philanthropic endeavors, the Farbers are active members, lay leaders and volunteers at Gloucester’s Temple Ahavat Achim and at Epstein Hillel School.
Additionally, Mark Farber has served on Gloucester’s Downtown Development Commission, City Hall’s Downtown Vision Plan Working Group, the Greater Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce board of directors and chaired its retail division. He is serving his 30th year as volunteer caretaker and chair of West Gloucester’s Mount Jacob Cemetery.
The Dr. Bennett I. Solomon Community Leadership Award recognizes the extraordinary commitment made by individuals to Epstein Hillel School and the North Shore community.
“The school is honored to recognize Amy and Mark with this award,” the school said in a prepared statement.
