COWDEN — The Cowden-Herrick-Beecher City volleyball team picked up a two-set Egyptian Illini Conference win over Patoka-Odin on Tuesday at Cowden-Herrick High School.
The Bobcats (8-17, 3-2 league) won the first set 25-8 and the second 25-21.
It was also the senior recognition match for CHBC, as the team’s five seniors were honored before the game. The seniors on the team this year are: Gracie Wright, Ryleigh Sarver, Timber Watson, Becca Macklin and Averie Vaughn.
Wright finished with two kills, one ace, 19 assists and six digs for the Bobcats. Allison Shields had 10 kills, two aces and two digs. Carissa Wakefield had one kill and one dig. Sarver had one assist and one dig. Jalizah Bowlin had nine kills, one ace, one block and nine digs. Watson had one ace, one assist and six digs. Macklin had one kill, one ace and seven digs. Gabriella Wakefield had two kills and Vaughn had eight digs.

Olivia Sornberger (N) beat Loren Niederhoffer (C) 10-0. Izzy Probst (N) fell to Zoe Holloway (C) 3-10 and Lauren Gier (N) beat McKenna VanDeveer (C) 10-4 in singles action for the Lady Eagles (10-6).
Sornberger and Beth Brocious (N) beat Holloway and Lily Hull (C) 8-5 and Jordyn Kocher and Brenley Francis (N) fell to VanDeveer and Liliana Nocerino (C) 7-10 in doubles.
SOCCER
at Carlyle … St. Anthony fell to Carlyle, 4-1.
Graham Miller scored the lone goal for the Bulldogs (2-10-3). Cole Adams had one assist.
“Defense played very well, holding Carlyle from scoring for 31 minutes,” said head coach Martin Reyes in an e-mail to the Daily News. “In the second half, we had many great opportunities to tie the game, but missing three key players hurt us at the end of the match. We had great plays by Noah Jansen, Jackson Schultz, Ike Daiber and Cole Adams; Myra Christie got her first start and played most of the first half and about half of the second.”
