BEEKMANTOWN — The streaking Plattsburgh Hornets met their match against the Beekmantown Eagles.
The Hornets entered Friday’s match coming off of three important wins: A shut-out against long-time conference rival Moriah, a win over out-of-conference Franklin Academy and then a close win with the team’s highest scoring outing of the season against Saranac.
The Hornets looked as ready as they could be to upset the Eagles, who have yet to lose in the CVAC.
The Eagles proved why they were undefeated, routing the Hornets in a dominant 55-16 win.
The win marked Beekmantown’s first regular season CVAC crown since 2019, and third overall since the league reformed in 2012.
An oppressive ground game was on display for the Eagles from kickoff to the end of the game. Beekamntown’s Shamus Bibeau was the first to run in a touchdown, stretching his legs with a 34 yard run to open the game. Bibeau finished with 78 rushing yards on four carries.
The problem for the Hornets was that Bibeau was not the only running threat. Parker Broughton was the next offensive weapon to find the endzone, and he did it twice to end the first quarter. He ran in a 14 yard touchdown at 6:45 and a 38 yard run with just under a minute left in the quarter. Broughton finished with 236 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 17 carries.
The Hornets now faced a steep climb to even the score, but found hope at the start of the second. Just two plays into the quarter, the senior duo of Dan Hartmann and Dom DeAngelo got Plattsburgh a spot on the scoreboard. A short pass from Hartmann found DeAngelo near the far sideline, and he thundered down the field for an 85 yard touchdown.
Plattsburgh was alive, but the Eagles weren’t willing to let their lead slip. 20 seconds later — just one play after the kick return — Broughton scored a touchdown from the midfield line. After Bibeau ran in the two-point conversion, Plattsburgh was once again down 21, and it would never get closer. Two more Beekmantown touchdowns and a pair of interceptions, one interrupted by a defensive foul, marked the end of the quarter, and as the Hornets piled onto the Eagle who caught the interception, emotions got hot.
The sidelines stormed the field, and each team’s head coaches walked towards the dogpile that formed on the field. After a short trading of words, the dogpile was dispersed and the halftime break was on. Multiple players from both teams were given ejections for unsportsmanlike conduct.
The second quarter proved just as effective for the Eagles, who stormed to the dominant final score.
Broughton and Seth Beebe scored touchdowns for the Eagles in the third quarter, bringing the team to its final score. Plattsburgh earned its final touchdown with six-minutes left in the game from George DeJesus.
Hartmann threw for 232 yards on the night at a 14/35 completion rate. The Eagles snagged three interceptions off of him. DeAngelo finished with the most rushing yards for the Hornets with 184 yards on eight carries.
