Niagara Falls police are investigating a fatal crash involving an e-bike and a tow truck at Lockport Road and Ontario Avenue.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene at 11:42 a.m. where they located a male with traumatic injuries. First responders immediately began rendering first aid. The male was transported to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center where he died of his injuries.
An initial investigation showed the e-bike rider was heading north, the wrong way, on 16th Street and attempted to make a wide right turn onto Lockport Road at which point he was struck by a 2018 Dodge Ram tow truck that was traveling southwest on Lockport Road after passing through a green light at the intersection with Ontario Avenue.
The driver of the tow truck remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Niagara Falls Police’s Traffic Division was assisted by New York State Police, who responded to perform a commercial vehicle inspection on the tow truck.
The intersection was closed for several hours Friday for the investigation.
