MANKATO — The case against a man accused of drug sales in Mankato was recently halted due to an incompetency finding.
Casimer Devon Tipton, 44, of Mankato, was charged with felony first-degree drug sales and second-degree drug possession in February in Blue Earth County District Court. The charges came after a drug sting in August 2023, according to a criminal complaint, when Minnesota River Valley Drug Task Force agents arranged for a confidential informant to purchase fentanyl from Tipton.
An examiner submitted a report earlier this month finding Tipton was incompetent to proceed in the case against him due to mental illness or cognitive impairment. On Aug. 23, Judge Kristine Weeks ordered a screening to be done on Tipton to determine whether he should be civilly committed.
