PEABODY — A small dog was pulled from a home that was ablaze on Connors Road in Peabody on Saturday afternoon.
Flames were showing out a front window at 1 Connors Road when crews arrived at the scene around 1 p.m. that day, Fire Chief Jay Dowling said.
Firefighters made quick work of dousing the flames from the outside and entering the home to knock the rest of the fire down, he said.
It was a hot day and a second alarm was struck to allow for more manpower at the scene. Crews searched the home for the dog, knowing he was still inside, and found him hiding under a bed on the second floor, Dowling said.
“He was hiding how they usually do, and he didn’t want to come out, but they got him,” Dowling said.
No one was injured.
One resident was home at the time of the fire, but was outside when it sparked and didn’t know about the flames until he was alerted by a neighbor, Dowling said.
The home had sustained extensive damage by the time crews cleared the scene at 4:30 p.m.
The fire started in front of a bay window on the first floor and appears to be an accidental electrical fire, Dowling said.
