The Cumberland County Board of Education is scheduled to discuss the Director of Schools search process during Thursday’s work session.
The board agenda includes the following process: reviewing the following policies: 5.800, 5.801, 5.802 and 5.803, the current Director of Schools position and revising the contract to include a salary range, the length of the contract and transportation elements.
The board will also review the area of consideration such as searching for candidates within Cumberland County only, within 50 miles, within Middle or East Tennessee only, or otherwise.
The board will look at interview rules, scoring and selection process, criteria, voting process, length of each session, and exact questions to be asked with the review and assistance of the human resources officer, board attorney and Tennessee School Boards Association.
The board will discuss posting the vacancy of the position and the interview application, setting interview dates based on the number of candidates and the board’s availability.
Finally, the board will make an offer and engage in a negotiation period of the contract.
Other items to be discussed include: quote from the Chromebooks total cost subject to a 25% increase in cost if tariffs are added, a preliminary timeline for outcomes money, the running fund balance as of Feb. 28, the Stone Memorial Middle School request for funding, financial documents including the financial report, sales tax, six budget amendments and related consent agenda items including the TNTP agreement, retired inventory from Phoenix school and Stone Memorial High School, warm body count and four overnight requests.
Public comment period is not on the agenda. This is subject to change. If community members would like to make a public comment, they need to sign up outside the boardroom before the meeting begins. According to board policy 1.404, comments are limited per person to three minutes. Comments are limited to topics listed on the agenda. As an agenda item, public comments in total can not exceed 30 minutes.
The Cumberland County Board of Education will meet for its work session at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20, in the Central Services building at 368 Fourth St., Crossville.
