DANVILLE — Dominick K. Cotton, 23, of Danville appeared in court on Monday and pled not guilty to the charges associated with a fatal shooting May 2 in the Riverfront Plaza parking lot, located at 2 E. Main St.
According to a initial release from the Danville Police Department, officers arrived to find a fight “involving gunfire” and found two individuals with gunshot wounds. According to Vermilion County Coroner Jane McFadden, one of the wounded individuals, Ricky Dandridge Jr., 22, of Danville later died.
Two days after the shooting, Danville Police Chief Christopher Yates released that Dominick K. Cotton, 23, of Danville was charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon. Cotton was also charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon.
Cotton was denied pretrial release and remains in the custody of the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department. During Monday’s appearance, Cotton waived the formal reading of charges, possible penalties and rights. He was also given 30 days to respond to any State motion for discovery, while each side has been given 30 days to final any additional pretrial motions.
A pretrial hearing has been set for July 6.
