At a past presentation to Lions Club by Jamie Elson, VA Illiana Voluntary Services Specialist, Elson presented an overview of ways people can participate in VA Voluntary Services. The Danville Lions embraced an opportunity to collect money and gift cards for July outings to Dairy Queen for residents of the VA Illiana Greenhouses.
The Lions collected $430 in gift cards, purchased at the Dairy Queen on East Main Street in memory of late Lion Bob Jones, former owner of the Dairy Queen. The gift cards were delivered to the VA Voluntary Services Office in July.
For their August service activity the Lions decided to collect personal care items as listed on the VA Illiana website for donation to the VA Greenhouses. Items collected by members of Danville Lions Club were delivered to the VA Voluntary Offices. Donated items included lotions, liquid soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, disposable men’s/lady’s razors, deodoran, tissue boxes, hair combs, shaving cream, coffee, reading glasses, hand soap, and boxes of Little Debbie cakes and treats.
